Baseline Studies: Electrification of Popular Transportation
The Global Network for Popular Transportation aims to equip change leaders and strengthen their capacity to work together to make local and national electrification policies and plans inclusive of popular transportation.
With support from the Drive Electric Campaign and through the work of local consultants, GNPT developed nine country-level baseline studies to better understand the current situation of popular transportation (including 2Ws, 3Ws, minibuses or other vehicles used for this purpose) and electrification, to identify champions, key stakeholders, emerging policies, and opportunities to incorporate popular transport into electrification policy and planning in the following countries:
Kenya
South Africa
Indonesia
Vietnam
Thailand
Chile
Colombia
Mexico
Brazil
These baseline studies will help change leaders in the climate and transport fields better understand the benefits of electrifying the popular transport sector, the sector's electrification needs, and policy opportunities to bridge those gaps. The objective of this work is to identify levers that will equip the relevant change leaders (and their local and national networks) with areas for engagement, mobilization and action.
